Upto 400 mm of Rain Expected in Sindh as Cyclone BIPERJOY Intensify

As Cyclone BIPARJOY continues to intensify in the Arabian Sea, authorities are taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of residents in the coastal areas of Thatta and Badin. The primary goal is to evacuate them from vulnerable regions and relocate them to safer locations.

During a briefing to the Chief Minister of Sindh, it was communicated that approximately 50,000 individuals residing in the villages of Shah Bandar, Jati, and Keti Bandar would need to be evacuated. Furthermore, an initial group of 2,000 people has already been relocated from the village of Zero Point in Badin.

According to meteorological forecasts, the areas along the projected path of the cyclone are expected to experience heavy rainfall, ranging from 300 to 400 mm. This substantial rainfall will likely affect Thatta, Sajawal, Badin, Mirpur Khas, and the surrounding regions in South-Eastern Sindh.

Officials have issued warnings about the potential impact of the cyclone, including waves reaching heights of 4 to 5 meters, resulting in significant water surges in the sea. However, there is some relief in sight as the storm's intensity is expected to decrease by June 17 to 18. The Meteorological Department reports that the cyclone has been moving northward for the past 12 hours and is currently located approximately 600 km south of Karachi and 580 km south of Thatta.

In light of these developments, local authorities are working swiftly to coordinate evacuation efforts, ensuring the timely and safe relocation of residents from high-risk areas. Temporary shelters and relief supplies are being arranged to accommodate those displaced by the cyclone. The government, along with various humanitarian organizations, is mobilizing resources to provide assistance and support to affected communities.

Additionally, communication channels are being strengthened to disseminate timely updates and warnings to residents, urging them to follow evacuation instructions and take necessary precautions.
